A huge thanks to the 32 generous donors who are helping support Nebraska Extension educational programs and services in Douglas and Sarpy counties as part of Omaha Gives! The 24-hour charitable day of giving, now in its seventh year, raised a total of $6.7 million to support community nonprofits including Friends of Foundation Extension. Thanks to you, we raised $2,855 to help in the following areas:

Our grants support many programs, including these areas:
4-H Youth Development -
- Look Who's Hatching 4-H Embryology project for area pre-school programs.
- Image Science a STEM program for youth which seeks to fill the pipeline of STEM careers.
- Educational programming with School Enrichment, After School, and our Club program.
- The 4-H bench design project added 10 new benches at the Sarpy County fairgrounds.
- Remodeling of the 4-H food stand at the Sarpy County fairgrounds.
- Gardening projects in several locations to promote good nutrition in children.
- STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Math for elementary students.
Natural Resources & Environment - support and maintenance of the 15 Master Gardener educational gardens in Douglas/Sarpy Counties, which include the following gardens -
- Heartland of America Park Sustainable Demonstration Garden
- Eastern Nebraska 4-H Center Gardens and Nebraska State Arboretum Tree Arboretum Project.
- Walnut Creek Demonstration Garden
- Chuck Blanchard Demonstration Garden
- The Hope Garden - producing food for local food banks.
Food, Nutrition & Health -
- Bed Bug Education for adults throughout the metro area.
- Omaha Home for Boys 4-H Wellness program implementing gardening for youth.
- Barf Buckets to reduce Norovirus and foodborne illness outbreaks in daycare centers.
- ServSafe Education - education for restaurants and food handlers.
- Low resource family education .
Water and the Environment -
- Pesticide Safety for lawn care companies, pest control operators. -
- Water Quality - including The Water Works program for 5th grade students.
Entrepreneurship/Leadership Education.

Douglas and Sarpy County Extension helps Nebraskans transform knowledge into "know how"-having confidence, skill and understanding to make better decisions about businesses, communities, families and personal lives. The Douglas and Sarpy Counties office provides educational outreach and serves the largest and fastest growing area of the state. The staff of over 30 serves this diverse, rural and urban population, providing educational programming and expertise in horticulture, foods and nutrition, youth and family, agriculture and 4-H, technology, home environment, storm water management and more.
ABOUT DOUGLAS/SARPY 4-H COUNCIL:
The Nebraska Extension in Douglas/Sarpy 4-H program is open to any youth ages 5-18, and has something for everyone! The 4-H programs provide an extensive breadth and depth of experiences, teaching skills that last a lifetime. Youth learn critical thinking skills, problem solving, and respect through projects. Projects also place an emphasis on making healthy lifestyle choices and hands-on activities that assist with career preparation.
