The 2016 Dream Garden Raffle
by Jean Lahrs, Master Gardener photos by Jim Keeper, Master Gardener It is a truth worth stating that the volunteers who comprise the corps of Douglas-Sarpy Counties Master Gardener veterans and interns are a collection of extremely talented and generous people. The list of 2016 Dream Garden Raffle prizes includes two very special treasures that will be cherished by those people lucky enough to win them at the raffle drawing. The Dream Garden Raffle Committee is pleased that Master Gardener Liz Sigerson is again offering her unique talents for this year's event. This year, Liz is donating a handmade quilted wall hanging for a Dream Garden Raffle prize. Liz's handwork is a one-of-a-kind design inspired by her own garden as well as various garden books and magazines. The wall hanging measures 30 x 47 inches. Named "Serendipity," the multi-color composition depicts a golden butterfly visiting coneflowers. This central theme is framed by borders of gold and purple fabric. (See picture to the left.) Lorraine and Frank Keatley worked over 40 hours to build a "timeless" garden-themed clock. The clock's diameter is 29 inches, and it has hangers on the back so it can be displayed on a wall. it was painted with exterior paint and can be displayed either inside the home or outside in a protected area. Six of the clock's numerals are made of small terra cotta pots; the other six numerals are made from miniature garden tools having wooden handles and silver-colored metal working ends. The result is a whimsical display against the clock's green background. (See picture of the clock below.) Link here to the Raffle Flyer here. |
